chattan

CHATTAN is a type of 3-dimensional visually interesting objects formed from rocks. In this method the work usually begins with the collection and selection of rocks with various interesting shapes and sizes from the exploded mountains. The fully dimensional form or figure of sculpture is created with the original shape and size depending on the resemblance of the rock. Once the general shape of the statue has been determined, the sculptor uses hammer to give it a bit of detailing when required. Hammer is used just to maintain the originality of the rock. No change is made in the shape or the resemblance of the rock to achieve any particular form. Pieces of rocks of different sizes are attached / fixed together by an advanced drilling method, all the rocks are held together with a premium quality steel rods into them. In order to achieve solid shape sculpture all the rocks joined together undergo a high strength thermal fusing. The rocks are washed with acid and are cleaned by sand blasting and then stone powder is applied on the top surface to get natural stone look and feel. The rocks are coloured with Meena Technology to get vibrant and vivacious colors. Natural corroded pebbles found near dried river basins of Nepal are incorporated in the sculpture to get natural flow of smooth curved surfaces. Metal pieces if used for any part are coated with stone powder to blend all the elements into one single stone sculpture.
